CHANCEL CHOIR

All adults (high school on up) are welcome to become a part of our Chancel Choir.  No auditions or previous choral experience are necessary. The Choir meets for rehearsal on Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. in the church sanctuary.

We sing nearly every week in our Sunday Worship service, and offer Spring and Christmas concerts each year. The Spring concerts have included faith-based major works; contemporary, gospel and spiritual arrangements; and secular music including jazz, pop, and rock ‘n roll styles.

Our Choir has a proud history of performing and accomplishments:

  • Enjoying accompaniment ranging from chamber orchestras to jazz combos; outstanding pianists.
  • Commissioning in 2015 the special composition of an anthem commemorating the 40th anniversary of John Carpenter as our Director.
  • Inviting the anthem composer, Brad Ellingboe, to direct a huge reunion choir at the anniversary celebration.
  • Accepting an invitation from Ellingboe to join him and choristers from around the country to perform Morten Lauridsen’s “Lux Aeterna” at Carnegie Hall in 2016.
  • In addition, the Choir has performed in community events, inter-denominational church services, and choral festivals.
  • Not only is singing in our Choir therapeutic for the singer, but the delivery of powerful messages through music is a joy and provides for spiritual growth. Being part of our Choir is fun, and educational. We are a wonderful support group for our members and church family. Come and join us.

Rejoysing

ReJoySing was formed in 2002 at University UMC in Irvine, originally as an SATB quartet. It is currently comprised of six singers from UUMC's Chancel Choir who love to perform a wide variety of Christian as well as secular music. Our music selections always include wonderful vocal harmonies from an eclectic group of composers and arrangers, ranging from jazz and traditional to gospel and spiritual music. ReJoySing periodically performs in UUMC’s church services, its concerts twice a year, and special events.
