Lead Pastor
Pastor Cathie is a Southern California native who earned her bachelor’s degree in social work and worked with under-served youth in the Los Angeles County foster care and probation systems for 14 years, which she considers her secular ministry.
A lifelong United Methodist who experienced a call to ministry as a teenager, she moved east after her son graduated from high school to earn her Master of Divinity and Master of Arts in Christian Education from Princeton Theological Seminary. She served two churches in New Jersey before returning to Southern California in 2014, when she was appointed to Ojai UMC.
Pastor Cathie was appointed to University UMC Irvine in July 2018 and brings with her a passion for planning worship, preaching from Scripture, teaching, creating avenues to engage in spiritual disciplines, engaging in thoughtful dialogue, and ministering to the needs of the community throughout the week.
Pastor Cathie serves on the Newport Mesa Irvine Interfaith Council board (NMIIC), is a chaplain with the Canterbury Irvine Community Table @ UCI, preaches at Regents Point, and numerous community organizations.
Pastor Cathie has an adult son, Anthony, who lives in Pasadena, and is engaged to her beloved, Al. They look forward to celebrating their wedding in July 2027. Her mother, Lois, is also an important part of her family life. Cathie enjoys hiking, traveling, being near water, cooking, and spending time with friends and family.
Associate Pastor – Irvine Korean UMC
Raised under the deep spiritual heritage of his mother, who was a pastor, Pastor Yeon Joon Moon’s life is a vivid testimony to the sovereignty and guidance of God, who works beyond human plans.
During the winter of his senior year of high school, while praying deeply on a snowy day, he had a clear and personal encounter with Jesus Christ that he has wholeheartedly confessed Jesus Christ as the Lord of his life and has continued to grow in a deeper and more mature faith in God.
Pastor Moon’s journey into ministry is a story of obedience, leaving worldly success behind to hold onto a single calling. In the past, he was a successful entrepreneur, serving as the CEO of a civil engineering company While pursuing a Ph.D. in Business Administration. Harboring a vision of becoming a faithful Christian politician, he came to the U.S. in 2011 as a visiting scholar at the USC Marshall School of Business. However, God completely altered his steps. In March 2012, under the night sky of a Nicaraguan mission field, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD. (Isaiah 55:8) was deeply implanted in his heart, shifting his life’s path toward the ministry of saving souls.
For over 11 years within the United Methodist Church, he cultivated discipline and pastoral maturity at Hansarang UMC, Glendale Grace UMC, and Dream Church, caring for congregants with unwavering dedication. Afterward, he was appointed as an associate pastor at UUMC, starting in July 2026, leading the ministry for the Korean congregation.
Pastor Moon resides in La Cañada Flintridge with his beloved wife, Helen Sook-kyung Kim, and their two children, Jung-woo and Ji woo. Preaching the Word with sincerity, embracing wounded souls with the warm heart of Jesus, and delivering Jesus’s Gospel is the lifelong calling he faithfully pursues.
