In The Community

Families Forward
Families Forward is a non-profit agency dedicated to helping low income and homeless families in need.  Families Forward addresses families’ needs at any point in their crisis by providing a broad spectrum of services, including: housing, counseling, food, education, case management, life-skills training and rent or utility assistance. Our church has long supported Families Forward with food drives, volunteers, and meeting space. Click on: http://www.families-forward.org/videos/ct01.wmv

  • Families Forward welcomed many of the first  evacuees from Katrina’s wrath to one of their transitional housing units. UUMC supported this effort greatly with money, support, and opportunities for employment.
  • The Adopt-A-Family Program was designed to help individuals who are in desperate need of financial help, hope and care during the holiday season. UUMC adopts several families each Christmas season.
  • UUMC often coordinates food drives for Families Forward. Our church collects canned goods on a regular basis for this wonderful organization. Families in need appreciate food to help feed their children.
  • Families Forward provides Thanksgiving baskets consisting of the traditional meal and more, to over 400 families. UUMC volunteers have helped by assembling food baskets and providing the needed items to fill the baskets.
